Red, White, and Blue Wreath for HOME Sign
I love my butterfly wreath so much that I never ended up making another “O” wreath for April, May, or June. (Gives me something to look forward to making next year.) But now that July is rapidly approaching, I wanted to get something up for the 4th of July to coordinate with my big pompom wreath.
The 4th of July makes me think of fireworks, which make me think of stars and sparkles—two of my favorite things. I just happened to come across the perfect pack of faux leather on Amazon when I was looking for something else. I ordered it first and then figured out exactly what I wanted to do with it. Stars seemed like a logical choice, so I decided to cut out different sizes of stars and layer them on the wreath form.
After I had made my wreath, I happened to notice my glitter cardstock on the shelf, and that reminded me that I could have used that. I love the different colors and textures I got from the faux leather, but if you have cardstock on hand already, that would also work!
As always, I used my favorite 6” floral ring from Michaels for the base of the wreath. I hope they carry these things forever.

Originally I had planned to cut out the stars with my Silhouette Cameo. Then we lost power for almost 24 hours, and I had given up and was planning to cut them out by hand. But THEN I got distracted and didn’t end up having time, so I was able to use my Cameo after all… for some of it. The upside of the back and forth is that I ended up with a simple star design that ended up being easy to cut out by hand when I needed to. (The angles are not as sharp as they could be.)
Silhouette Studio has a star drawing feature, and that’s what I used to draw my star shape. Once I had one, I duplicated it twice and sized them all differently.
I followed the instructions on silhouetteschoolblog.com for cutting faux leather, except that I realized too late I didn’t have a new ratchet blade, so I left the fairly new auto blade in the machine. The cut settings worked perfectly for all but the heavily glittered pieces of faux leather. In this particular pack, that happens to be half of the sheets. It’s possible that a newer blade would have been able to handle it, but I don’t know. (I’m also using a Cameo 3 and not the newer 4, so there’s that.) I used a Sharpie to trace one of the hearts I had successfully cut out on the backside of the glittery sheets, and used scissors to cut them out. Easy.
Once I had enough stars cut out, I started with the biggest ones and glued them on using a hot glue gun. Then I went around again with the other two sizes and placed them where I thought they looked good.
The final touch was putting a small Command strip on the back, and it was ready to hang up! Of course I love anything that sparkles, but that glitter is amazing.
