Painted Mesh Ribbon Jars

It is truly feeling like FALL this week, and I am so excited! Bring it on! I’m kicking my fall crafting into high gear now, and I’ve been finding inspiration at the stores I’ve been visiting. You can see my putka pod wreath here, and my fall garland here. This quick and easy project was inspired by the rolls of mesh ribbon I found at Dollar Tree. I bought it knowing I would find a way to use it, and this is what I came up with!

Supplies:

My large stash of glass bottles and jars came in handy yet again!

The ribbon I bought was gold and copper/rose gold, so I chose my paint colors accordingly. It wasn’t until I’d painted two of my jars copper/rose gold that I actually opened the ribbon and realized that the leaves are silver on the other side. I would have swapped one copper jar for silver had I known, since I love those three metallic colors together. Next time!

I painted just the rim of each jar, but I’ve since had another idea. What about taping off the part of the jar where the ribbon goes and painting the rest? It would look like there’s a mesh window in the jar, and I think that would be pretty. I might have to try that in the future.

Another note about the paint: It took several coats to get good coverage of paint. I’ve found that to be the case every time I paint glass—unless I’m using spray paint.

I had to cut down the ribbon a little bit to make it fit, but not much. I wrapped it around the jar to determine how much I needed, and then I cut it off the spool. I put glue dots in a line down the jar and pressed one end of the ribbon onto them. Then I wrapped the ribbon back around the jar. Because the ribbon is mesh, the overlapping ribbon stuck to the glue dots as well. I ran a line of glue down the jar, and the glue dots held everything in place while the glue dried. Some kind of clear tape, like mailing tape, might even be a better choice here. Maybe even bigger dots. That’s what I’ve linked to here.

That’s really all there is to it! I put candy in the jars for now, but they would also make beautiful vases. Lots of possibilities for these.

I see online that Dollar Tree has mesh ribbon for Christmas as well. If I see it in the store (and I hope I do!) I will definitely be buying it! I also saw Halloween colors on the website, and I would be tempted to buy those if I saw them.

If you decorate your own jars, you can share them with me on Instagram or Facebook! If you have any other ideas for what to do with this mesh ribbon, let me know in the comments below. It’s so pretty that I’d love to use it again, but I haven’t yet come up with something else that would show off the leaves. I’d appreciate any thoughts you might have!

Happy crafting!
