My Favorite Disney Snacks
My husband and I were supposed to take a trip sans kids to Disney World this spring, but Covid-19 put a stop to that. Not only did we not get to go, we also don’t know when we’re going to be able to go back. I’ve had a lot of time (too much, you might say) to think about what I miss about my happy place, so I thought I’d share. I’ll start with snacks—because who doesn’t love Disney snacks? I’m including some drinks on the list, because sometimes that’s all you need. So, in no particular order…
Mickey Bars. These have fairly recently become a must-eat for me. I don’t think I fully appreciated them until a few trips ago, and now we get them regularly. One nice thing about them is that no matter where you are on Disney property, you can find them somewhere nearby. You can even buy them in the hotel gift shops! I so appreciate Disney releasing a version of Mickey bars in grocery stores, because even if they are smaller than what you’d get in the parks, they can (and have) add a touch of magic to times we can’t be there.
Odwalla Lemonade with wildberry foam on top. ‘Ohana and Coral Reef are the first places my daughter and I ever had it, and we were hooked. Unfortunately, we can’t eat at those places every single day, so I was very excited to find out that the Sleepy Hollow quick serve at Magic Kingdom has it! It’s in the perfect spot to grab one on the way in or out of the park, or even to watch a parade from. Now Odwalla lemonade alone is also yummy, and Columbia Harbor House at Magic Kingdom uses it in their lemonade slush, but I still prefer the wildberry foam. I don’t know what it’s made of, but I can only assume there’s magic involved.
Funnel cake. Funnel cakes make me think of carnivals, Wild Lights at the zoo, and Disney World. I can smell them from a long way away. I have very fond memories of sitting on a bench in the quiet American pavilion eating a funnel cake one night as Epcot was closing down. Of course the monorail was shut down by the time we finally made our way out of the park, and we probably logged an extra mile of walking trying to find alternate transportation, but it was worth it.
Citrus swirl. I know people are all about the Dole Whip, but I will choose orange over pineapple any day. The mixture of vanilla soft serve and orange juice slush makes me so happy. It doesn’t hurt that Orange Bird is adorable, and you can see him at Sunshine Tree Terrace when you get your citrus swirl.
L’Artisan des Glaces. The French pavilion has my favorite ice cream of all that I’ve tried at Disney World. I’ve heard rave reviews of the gelato in the Italian pavilion, so during our last trip we made a point to get both. For me, France wins. Hands down. I’ve only had the chocolate ice cream in a cup, and that’s all I need. I dream of that stuff. Amazing.
Karmel Küche. I have issues with caramel going back to my first pregnancy, but I have always loooooved caramel corn. Getting a warm bag of it is THE best. Heck, just the smell of this place makes it both worth going inside and hard to leave without buying something.
Frozen Coke. I haven’t had a regular glass of caffeinated soda since 2005, but I have a thing for frozen Cokes. And there is something extra special about them on Disney property. Maybe it’s the occasional pixie dust of finding a Mickey straw in your cup, but really they just taste better somehow. I can tell you where they are in each park, and now that they’ve moved in Epcot I will be chasing them down as soon as I can.`
Mickey pretzels. Okay, how do some things just taste so much better at Disney World?! These are fantastic, and they are HUGE. They’re the perfect size for us to grab one or two to feed our family and take the edge off when we just need a little something. We’ve had different shape variations through the years, and it has become clear that Disney pretzels are yummy in any form.
Corn dog nuggets from Casey’s Corner. I’m including this as a snack, because that’s the only way we’ve ever eaten them. But most people probably eat them as a meal. I’m getting hungry just typing this. I’m embarrassed that I ever got annoyed with the crowd of people clogging up the Casey’s end of the Emporium, because now I understand. We have one kid who is suddenly on a corn dog kick, so this will undoubtedly be one of our first stops next time we make it to the Magic Kingdom.
I know I’m forgetting things, but I think I’ve covered my absolute favorites. I’m always reading about snacks that sound delicious, so I keep a list of snacks to try. At the top of the list are cinnamon rolls from Gaston’s Tavern and a Cheshire Cat tail from the Cheshire Cafe. Let me know if you have anything I should add to my list!
