Small Heart Wreath for HOME Sign

Even though we’re almost halfway to February, it wasn’t that long ago that I finished the January snowflake wreath for my HOME sign. This time I wanted to get ahead of the game and get my February wreath done well in advance. I went back to felt this time and kept it simple. I love the way it turned out! I definitely think it says “Valentine’s Day.” Once I swap out the green flowers on my pompom wreath for the pink hearts, it’ll all look nice and festive together.
As always, I used my favorite 6” wreath form from Michaels. Love these things.
I chose four different colors of felt, but there are plenty of others to choose from. As an alternative to felt, you could use cardstock—or whatever else you have on hand.
I used my clear gel Tacky glue, because somehow I have not used all of it yet. It works really well on these felt projects, so I keep going back to it. Regular Tacky glue works well too.
Supplies:
Felt
Scissors
Paper template
Small Command strip
Step 1
Make your paper template. I folded a piece of paper in half and cut half a heart along the crease—just like I first learned to cut out hearts as a kid. Ahh, memories. I love that you get a perfectly symmetrical heart that way.
Step 2
Cut hearts out of felt. I had four pieces of felt and ended up cutting more hearts than I needed. (I’m sure I can find something else to do with the extras.) I actually cut the hearts out the same way I cut out the template, except this time I had my template to cut around. If you don’t want to fold the felt and cut through two layers at once, you could always open up your heart template and trace it on the felt before cutting out the hearts.
Step 3
Lay out the hearts to see what you like. You don’t want to start gluing and then realize you have some weird spacing issues at the end or something. I know this from experience. I liked the look of the two overlapping rings of hearts, but you can do whatever you want.
Step 4
Glue the hearts onto the wreath form. I glued one heart down and then overlapped them slightly as I went clockwise around the whole thing. If you do this, make sure you don’t glue down the left side of the first heart. If that side is loose you can slip the last heart underneath to complete the loop. Otherwise you’ll find out just how well the glue works when you’re trying to pull up the felt. I also know this from experience.
Step 5
Add a Command strip to the back of the wreath.
Step 6
Hang it up and enjoy!
